TE 803- Professional Roles and Teaching Practice IISpring 2010
Instructor: Patrick Youngs TE 803 was a course that asked us to think about our students and the ways in which we can build positive school communities. Various aspects of school communities and instruction (such as social capital and scaffolding) were examined. I was asked to think about my own teaching philosophy and modify this with research-based best practices. In the class I created a Teaching Philosophy, performed action research with two students, and completed data analysis in a school-wide intervention. |

CEP 810- Teaching for Understanding with TechnologySummer 2012
Instructors: Amy Pietrowski & Ben Rimes CEP 810 introduced me to various forms of technology and their uses in education. As a class we explored tools that made us more productive inside and outside of the classroom. There was a focus on expanding our PLNs through Twitter, developing our understand of copyright laws with Creative Commons, and providing us with safe computer usage tricks of the trade. Through the course I coordinated with my group members to create a presentation surrounding apps that improve reading comprehension in the classroom. Our resources were annotated using Diigo. Additionally, I reflected on my own growth throughout the course with a Google Doc. My Work can be found below and to the right. CEP 811- Adapting Innovative Technologies to EducationSummer 2012
Instructor: Melissa White CEP 811 introduced me to various forms of technology that can be used to improve my teaching. I was able to use services such as Diigo to organize my own resources and develop learning activities for my students. I explored a variety of tools and evaluated them for their educational value. In this this course I started to realize that technology must be used to enhance learning environments, not just to add aesthetic value. The culmination of this course was the STAIR (Stand Alone Interactive Resource) that I created using Moodle. The process of creating an independent learning environment was amazing and led to my desire to "flip" my teaching in CEP 820. |

CEP 800- Psychology of Learning in School and Other SettingsFall 2012
Instructor: Danah Henriksen CEP 800 helped further my instruction with and without technology. This course explored various learning theories and differing methods of instruction that focused on these theories. Throughout the course I focused on constructivist learning theories that used inquiry. I was able to practice using services such as Twitter and Google Apps. We performed action research and learned how to analyze our own teaching and the learning of our students. This course helped improve my teaching with and without technology. |
CEP 812- Applying Educational Technology to Issues of PracticeFall 2012
Instructor: Carolyn McCarthy CEP 812 was a course that introduced me to the concept of TPCK (Technology, Pedagogy, Content Knowledge). We were asked to look at our own teaching and how we can integrate good pedagogical practices with technology. We experimented with services such as Wordle and Voki. In groups, we recorded a presentation that showed teachers how to use Windows Movie Maker for their own classroom use. Additionally, we had to solve a "Wicked Problem" in our own instruction. For me, I focused on the use of CPS clickers and their ability to strengthen my formative assessment. |
CEP 815- Technology and LeadershipSpring 2013
Instructors: Luke Rapa & Joshua Rosenberg CEP 815 explored the role of leadership in the classroom, school, and community. We learned about difference between leaders and managers. We learned about various types of leaders and discovered that the best leaders look far into the future and make decisions based upon their vision. The course helped me to think about my own vision of teaching and learning. Additionally, CEP 815 helped me to think about the school in the greater context in which it resides- the community. The culminating project asked us to assess a learning or teaching problem in our school or community. Using technology, I designed a professional development program to help enhance cross curricular cooperation in my school. |
This presentation highlighted common misconceptions about technology from technology leaders |
CEP 820- Teaching Students OnlineSummer 2013
Instructors: Anne Heintz & Sandra Sawaya CEP 820 introduced me to the notion of online learning. Throughout the course I explored the positive and negative rationales for using online learning environments. I learned to assess online learning environments and evaluate the added benefits of using online settings. I read a great deal of research to show that when structured using good pedagogy, online learning environments help create positive learning outcomes, I found that using rubrics, such as those provided by the NEA, learning settings can be effectively assessed for their true value. As part of this course I created a "flipped" classroom model using a Learning Management System. This "flipped" learning environment blended face to face settings with online learning. |

CEP 822- Approaches to Educational ResearchSummer 2013
Instructors: David Wong, Tatyana Li, & Youkyung Lee CEP 822 introduced me to good academic research. While CEP 800 and TE 803 introduced me to action research, CEP 822 focused on analyzing data in a variety of settings. This course taught me how to collect and analyze student data. Additionally, it introduced me to academic journals and the concept of meta-analysis. As part of my culminating project I was asked to research a topic in eduction that I wanted to know more about. Over the course of the semester I researched the concept of college readiness and the ways in which schools around the world get their students ready for higher learning. Using research articles from a wide variety of sources I found that rigorous, highly focused classrooms produced students who performed best at the next level. |
CEP 807- Capstone in Educational TechnologyFall 2013
Instructor: Matthew Koehler CEP 807 was the capstone course for my master's program. In this course I was asked to review and synthesize all of the experiences that I had throughout the MAET program. This website was created to showcase all of my work throughout the two year process. |
